Although he accepted a royal pardon, he continued raiding shipping, using the caves on the cliffs of Negril to hide his plunder. Pirate hunter and childhood schoolmate Captain John Drudge laid in wait to capture him. After a fierce gun battle, Brown surrendered. He eventually died of wounds.
